Below is a list of fantastic indoor (and a couple of outdoor) activities for families, located within easy distance of our Bella Vista motel in Dunedin:
1. Moana Swimming Pool
Located just up the hill on Littlebourne Road, only about a 5-minute drive from your motel, Moana Pool is one of Dunedin’s best-known recreation facilities. There’s ample parking across the road. Moana Pool has trained some of New Zealand’s most successful swimmers, including double Olympic gold medallist Danyon Loader and World Championship medallist Erika Fairweather. It regularly hosts national and regional championships in swimming, diving, and water polo and is a major venue for the New Zealand Masters Games.
The facility includes a variety of swimming options: a river feature in the play pool for younger swimmers, a learners pool, diving pool, and a main competition pool. For a splash of fun, there are two exciting waterslides that are sure to keep children entertained for hours. Pack a picnic and spend the whole day there.

Self-described as "The coolest place to play," the Dunedin Ice Stadium is located on Victoria Road, about a 15-minute drive from Bella Vista. It’s open to the public from 12 PM to 4 PM most days (closed Mondays and Tuesdays). Try your skills at their themed DISCO skate sessions, catch an exhilarating ice hockey match, or challenge your group to a fun game of curling.
The stadium is family-friendly and offers a lounge with free Wi-Fi, so non-skaters can relax while watching the fun. A café on-site provides hot food, drinks, and snacks. It’s also a great spot to host children’s parties, and the staff are always welcoming and helpful.
