This is an enjoyable short walk that provides a wonderful 360-degree view over Hanmer and the surrounding mountains.

Hanmer Springs Jet Boating

Jump onboard to enjoy the spectacular scenery of the Waiau River. Thrill seekers will enjoy the narrow gorges, white water rapids, braids, and of course 360 degree spins.

Bungy Jumping

This bungy site offers free-falling 35 metres towards the surging Waiau River below; the friendly and knowledgeable staff will make you feel completely at ease.

Hanmer Forest

Enveloping the township of Hanmer is beautiful native forest, offering fantastic walking trails, mountain biking and birdlife. The changing colours of the forest if you visit between seasons will take your breath away.

Hanmer Springs Animal Park

Hanmer Springs Animal Park, Café and Gallery is a fun family day out. Set on 20 acres of farmland, the park can be enjoyed rain or shine because of the 2 acres of sheltered purpose-built buildings.  Freely explore the animals, hand feed them, pat them, and relax. Horse and donkey rides can also be booked.

Hanmer Springs Rafting

Take the opportunity to raft down a grade 2 river, there’ll no doubt be screams and finger clenching as the river changes quickly. From calm drifting in serene waters to the rough and rocky rapids, a fantastic trip out on the river.

A Maze N Golf

Head along to play a game of mini golf or be challenged by the themed maze (or do both) family fun that will no doubt include a whole lot of laughter.

Marble Point Winery

This is one of New Zealand’s highest altitude vineyards (at 297m above sea level) the unique environment surrounded by high country farms and mountains is located on the banks of the Waiau river. Enjoy the restaurant, tastings and cellar door.

St James Conservation Area

The government purchased St James Station as public conservation land in 2008, funded by the Nature Heritage Fund. It is located on three mountain ranges and encompasses glaciated valleys, glacial moraine deposits, streams, wetlands, lakes and high altitude tarns. Enjoy the walks, huts, mountain biking, fishing and 4wd opportunities in this area.

Hanmer Springs Ski Area

Only 17km from Hanmer town Hanmer Springs Ski Area offers family friendly skiing with a good selection of runs and off piste options to choose from. Skiing is suited to all ages and skill levels.

Quad Biking

You’ll travel through streams, forest and up over rocks – on this 4wd experience. This two-hour trip will take you over some tricky Canterbury terrain with an expert guide.

Hanmer Springs Canoe Safari

A great option for families or groups, you’ll head to the river on safe, durable and fun inflatable vessels. Enjoy the Waiau River on this full-day, guided river safari. Tour includes: picnic lunch and a return by jet boat to departure point.

Hanmer Llamas

Short treks through to multi day options. You’ll trek alongside your llama that will carry everything you need on their back.  The llamas are very friendly and you’ll no doubt develop a close bond with your buddy.

Rainbow Road (Hanmer Springs to St Arnaud)

A wilderness driving experience across private land, this 112‑kilometre road from Hanmer to St Arnaud via Tophouse Rd and Wairau Hanmer Springs Hydro Rd through Molesworth Station is accessible by 4WD vehicles only (2WD to Lake Tennyson). This is a toll road, please refer to the doc website for information.
