Introducing your hosts, Ange and Barry
Ange is a true West Coaster, born and raised. Barry hails from Marlborough but now calls the Coast home too. Ange joined Bella Vista Hokitika in 2009 as a Motel Minder while juggling life with two preschoolers. Over the years, her role grew from Cleaning Supervisor and Health & Safety lead in 2015 to full-time Motel Manager by 2020.
Barry, while working off-site, is the behind-the-scenes backbone of support. Their two kids even pitch in with office duties from time to time making it a real family effort.
Together, they bring deep local knowledge spanning the entire West Coast, from Haast to Karamea. Hokitika has been a safe, welcoming place to raise their family, and being part of a supportive motelier network and thriving business community makes the journey all the more rewarding.

Hokitika is nature’s playground and it's all at your Bella Vista Hokitika doorstep, such is our location so good. There’s so much to explore here, and the best part? Most of it only costs your time.
Wander the rugged Wild West Coast beaches, swim or kayak in stunning lakes, or take a lazy sail or adrenaline-pumping water ski ride. Just 50 metres from the northern entrance to town, the magical Glow Worm Dell is a must-see, especially after dark.
Don’t miss the breath-taking Hokitika Gorge. Seriously, do go there. Watch unforgettable sunsets at Sunset Point, explore historic goldfields, or hunt for Greenstone treasures along the shore.
Surrounded by scenic walking tracks and nestled in the heart of the West Coast Wilderness Trail, Hokitika is also a cyclist’s dream—with bike hire and shuttle services right in the town centre.

- We buy over 80% of our cleaning product’s locally, which helps with local employment and helps reduce transport emissions.
- Low energy light bulbs in the motel units.
- We offer an onsite EV Charger - encouraging the transport network to move away from fossil fuels.
- We donate all items we no longer require to local charity shops.
- If staying more than one night we encourage towel reuse.
- We have removed single use soap’s etc.
- We use environmentally friendly, comfortable durable pillows made from recycled plastic bottles.
